Every woman has unique needs at different times in her life, and each company has unique strengths and weaknesses in their support for female employees. But that doesn't mean there aren't trends that we can learn from!
Recently, we dug into our ratings data to look at the types of support that bigger companies are particularly good at, on average. Here's what we found:
Sponsorship or Mentorship Programs
If professional development is important to you, look for companies that invest in sponsorship and mentorship programs. Recent research shows that providing working women with active support and guidance from mentors is a critical element of their success.
With more than 10,000 employees, Boston Consulting Group has a rating of 4.0 out of 5 for Sponsorship or Mentorship on InHerSight. The company is making a difference through a distinct program that offers networking, development, and mentorship opportunities for women. One very satisfied anonymous rater praised the company for providing “wonderful mentors, access to world class learning and development opportunities, and most importantly, an amazing work culture.”
Equal Opportunities for Men and Women
Providing men and women with equal opportunities for career growth and development is a complicated problem. Across the board, employees at large companies noted that their companies were making visible efforts in areas including minimizing wage gaps, increasing opportunities for promotions, and improving gender ratios.
An anonymous rater for financial services giant Edward Jones noted that the company provides “equal opportunity for exactly the same pay,” with another rater adding “I don't know of another company where I could be as equal in pay AND have awesome leave benefits.” The company has a 4.3 out of 5 rating for Equal Opportunities on InHerSight.
Family Growth Support
If you have been waiting for subsidized child care, on-site lactation rooms, and flexible work hours, larger companies are answering your call! Many large companies rated on InHerSight are improving the ways in which they support working mothers. We were excited to see these initiatives performing well at tech companies such as CA Technologies, which scores a 4.7 out of 5 for Family Growth Support; HubSpot, which scores a 4.3 out of 5; and Procore Technologies, which scores a 3.9 out of 5.
