One of my favorite parts of the ever so addicting Game of Thrones series has been to witness the evolution of Daenerys Targaryen from a compliant young girl, into a total boss/queen/mother of dragons. Despite being sold, betrayed, and assaulted, she’s come out a survivor and her experiences have only made her stronger.
She describes her resilience better than anyone else could, and reminds us all to always have faith in ourselves: “So many men have tried to kill me, I don't remember all their names. I have been sold like a broodmare. I've been chained and betrayed, raped, and defiled. Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile? Faith. Not in any gods. Not in myths and legends. In myself. In Daenerys Targaryen...I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and I will.”
Her ability to rule is constantly called into question simply because she’s a woman. However, she’s a pro when it comes to clapping back at her haters and those who doubt her. She commands respect, unabashedly asserts her power, and stands up to all of the inequality and hate surrounding her—this is the type of leader we should look up to. Next time you want to proclaim your power, use one of these Khaleesi quotes.
