This article is part of InHerSight's Pathfinders series. Groundbreakers. Innovators. Whatever name you use, these women are making career waves in new and remarkable ways.

New industries, new innovations—women pioneers are everywhere. For this inspiring series, we’re asked our partner companies to submit one woman “Pathfinder” to represent their work, their products, their industry, or their values. (And often, all of the above.)

Meet Kerry Cleek, a corporate controller at Boats Group. Discover how her accounting career has flourished and provided multiple avenues for success.

What path are you forging?

I play an active role in innovation and excellence within the organization, and I act as a mentor/role model to encourage and help those around me thrive and flourish. This includes attention to inclusivity and inspiring others.

What inspired you to pursue this field?

The accounting profession provides exposure to a plethora of industries both domestic and international.

What’s a cool project or program you’ve developed as a result of your work in this area?

I have migrated/installed multiple accounting systems and software modules (foreign currency, treasury, cost accounting, and small enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems). I have been a project manager on a large acquisition due to my organizational skills and ability to lead.

What resources or people have been influential in your success in your field?

It is important to stay active in your community and business network. I started while in college as an officer in our accounting club. I'm still active today in an accounting organization.

What advice would you give to aspiring professionals looking to break into and make an impact in emerging industries or technologies or at their company?

I encourage everyone to listen and learn the basics. Work ethic and teamwork speak volumes of your character. This will open many doors.
